A lot of people tend to think that if you're a scientist, you can't be Christian. Furthermore, if you're Christian, you can't be gay. What they don't seem to realize is that the answer isn't just black or white, this or that. You can be somewhere in between, or both. I happen to be all three.
I have wanted to be a forensic scientist since I was ten years old and watched crime shows with my mom. The puzzle of the crimes fascinated me, how does C come from A and B, and where did E and D come from? I also excelled at chemistry in my high school years. So when I found a 4+2 bachelor's degree in Chemistry taking me right to the master's in Forensics, there was no second thoughts. I've loved every ounce of the work I've done and all the work I did to get here.
I'm not going to lie, I don't consider myself the typical Christian. Yes, I believe in evolution, and yeah, the bible is a great read! Do I wholly believe in the faceless man in the clouds however? I can't say I do. My faith is put in the Holy Spirit, the entity of God. I believe there is something here with us that puts its grace and power into the world around us in our time of needs. Sometimes it's a word or conversation spoken to me from a good friend. Sometimes it's the vibe my hobbies give me and the relief they bring. Sometimes its the smallest objects or things we take for grant it, suddenly brought to our attention anew. I have faith it that. My church loves me and holds me close, even when I kissed a girl. Some of the best people to bring me through my toughest times I met there, and for some people I became the same. To me, if you love god, and you care for the people around you, stranger or friends, that's all the should matter.
People that tend to think things are black and white are so easily surprised at the ability to be gray, thinking it's so rare. I understand it to be the opposite. In the world of today, opportunities and options to the individual are endless because people are being themselves and I don't know anyone, not even twins, who are exactly the same! I am able to be all of those things because I let me be me and I don't bother with sticking to or confronting with the typical, or "normal". I'm doing the work of my dreams, believing in my dreams, and loving the people of my dreams. So why shouldn't you?
